Suprise! Dessert

For my birthday, my mom gave me a sweet book called Hello, Cupcake! Lots of fabulous ideas for super cute cupcakes. As I flipped through the pages, one particular idea caught my eye. You see, our friends, Mark and Kelly, recently finished their basement for the purpose of housing Mark's new pool table, inherited from his grandmother. (You can see the finished product here.)
So, when I saw these cupcakes, I couldn't resist bringing them to our next small group meeting. And they were pretty fun to make. :)

Yum!!! How totally cute! What did you use for all the different colored "sugar"? Dye it yourself? Kool-aid? Do tell!!!

I colored the sugar myself with just your basic food coloring. I have like 9 different food coloring colors, so it was easy to create all the right colors. I combined them in ziplock bags several days earlier so that the sugar would be nice and dry to use for decorating. OH, and the "chalk" is made out of blue airheads!

WOW, Kaylee! Those cupcakes look amazing! I was just about to post an entry on my swirl cupcakes, but I've got nothing after looking at your sweet pieces of art!
